“Galatea” by Madeline Miller Review

Galatea is a short story which tells the story of Galatea, the wife of a skilled marble sculptor , who created her as a masterpiece and was brought to life by a goddess.

Galatea is the most beautiful woman in her town. She is expected not to be like the other women her husband despise . To continue to blush and act a fool for him. To know nothing of the world and be his little pet.

When she gets pregnant, her husband is angry and she begins to learn and to use her beauty to protect the one person important to her.

Galatea was a good story to me. It painted a perfect picture of a misogynist man who created a perfect woman for himself . Even with all the qualities she has he is not satisfied. He sets impossible standards and is not happy when you attain them. He wants you to have an effect on every man but be oblivious about it. All I can say is, this is a Greek retelling of our present men right now. I rate it 4/5.🌟
