This book follows Gify, a Ghanaian- American who was born and has spent her entire like in Alabama. She is a Post graduate student currently undergoing her PHD in Neuroscience. Her final experiment researches reward seeking behavior in mice and neural circuits of addiction and depression.
On the surface level , gifty seems like a talented, intelligent young 28 year old with a quest for knowledge and to improve the world. But deeper, gifty is a troubled woman trying to find her way in a society where she tells abandoned and Betrayed by God, her family and society. Transcendent kingdom shows fifty’s experiences growing up as an immigrant facing racism, an addicted brother and broken family.
To me this novel is beautiful, an account of a woman who seems to be making it but everything is nothing but a shell. The exploration of topics of racism, Christianity, God, belief and mental illness was absolutely incredible. Reading this book made me reflect on some existing knowledge I had about belief , Christianity, mental illness and my overall concept of living. It is very impactful and I recommend it for everyone. I rate it 4/5🌟
